Fleur-de-lis: The Meaning Behind the Logo

Welcome to The Blooming Ginger website!  I’m so excited you are here! This website has been a long time dream in the making, which is why I am thrilled to share it with you!  

Creating jewelry with purpose and intention is my passion and this blog is a great way for me to share this with you on a more personal level. One of the first topics I would like to share with you is the meaning behind The Blooming Ginger logo, the fleur-de- lis. This symbol of faith has always been attractive to me. Many years ago, a priest at my childhood parish shared with a group of us parishioners the meaning behind the fleur-de-lis symbol. He suggested we try to count how many we could find throughout the church’s beautifully stained-glass windows. Now, every time I am in a Catholic church, or any place with detailed architectural artwork, I look for that symbol and admire its meaning, a symbol of faith that has carried through centuries and time.

The fleur-de-lis is a stylized lily that has served as both a royal emblem and a religious symbol throughout history.  In Catholic tradition, the fleur-de-lis represents the Virgin Mary’s purity and is associated with the Annunciation and her acceptance of God’s will. The three petals of the fleur-de-lis have also been believed to represent the Holy Trinity and the three virtues of faith, hope and charity.

This beautiful symbol can be found in church architecture, liturgical art, and religious images throughout the world. I love that this symbolism will now be carried on in this ministry and the jewelry I create and share with all of you!
